One Busy Month

Corban and Carter both received their Arrow of Light Award. This is the Eagle of the Cub Scouting program. We are very proud of the them and their hard work. The Indian in the middle awarded them their arrows. For more info please visit Carter and Corban's personal blog site.
This is the last step from cub scouts to boy scouts. Carter and Corban walked across the bridge symbolizing their bridging into the Boy Scouts of America. This was both a happy and sad time. After three years with the same boys and leaders they were both a little apprehensive about the change, yet at the same time anticipation for what's ahead was apparent.

Carter, Corban and Chandler say," Happy Halloween, and Mom will you every put the camera down and let us go trick or treating?" Carter was a Ninja, Corban a Vampire and Chandler a Fire Fighter.

Carter and Corban decided this year they wanted to decorate their own cake. They each drew a plan and work together to create their masterpiece.
Here is the master piece they designed. Be assured it was all edible. They wanted a Medieval theme birthday party.
Corban and Carter got MP3 players for their birthday this year. They were very excited because they have been wanting one for at least a year. We have been constantly reminded all of their friends already have one. I guess we gave into peer pressure, but they can forget the laptop next on their lists.
For their party a neighborhood friend made all the foam shields and and swords for them to battle with. This guy across the street is part of a team that meets together and plays a game called amtgard. You can learn more about it on amtgard-ch.com. It is a very physical and involved game. This has become the game of the neighborhood kids. Boys and girls alike. As you can tell Chandler was not about to be told he was too little. Here is one side lined up waiting for the signal to attack. (Chandler thinks he is fighting the Lamanites.)

We all worked together to make Chandler's Birthday party fun. Carter and Corban helped make the fort on the swingset look like it was on fire by taping red, yellow and orange streamers to it.

After hearing, seeing, and learning the Beatles preformed at the Red Rock Amphitheater, their creative minds started working. The exact stage; press play to find out what they decided.

Red Rock Park

Today we went to the Red Rock Park and Amphitheater. The boys had a blast running up and down the stairs. This is a place where many music groups have come to preform.
The interest rose drastically as the boys learn the Beatles had preformed here. Carter is admiring his favorite musicians while across the hall Corban is scouring the walls to find what day and year the Beatles played here. The answer, "August 29, 1964.
After climbing down all the stair to the stage each boy took a turn to preform. Chandler is throwing his hat at the end of one of his performances. "Priceless moments"
Corban is contemplating which song he wants to sing.
Carter is in the middle of preforming his own solo tribute to the Beatles.

Fun in Denver

Chandler is Dancing in the top of the Dome of the Capitol building. Carter and Corban were told to find a way to get all their energy out before we got back to Kara's for quiet time. This is what they found. Nothing like JUMPING TWINS.

Mile High Marker

"I am chill'in out on the steps one mile above sea level on the steps of the capitol building," said Carter.
"Chill'in out on the steps ," said Corban.
"Here I am in Colorado Denver but I don't know where I am," said Chandler.

Denver Capitol

Here the boys are chill'in at the Capitol. If you look behind the boys in the window all of the banisters and railing look like gold. They are actually brass. I was taking a picture of the older boys and Chandler jump in right at the last minute. It did make for a cute picture.
We took the 99 stair climb to the top of the dome. Carter and Corban said "This is like National Treasurer climbing to the top."
We made it! and are still smiling.
This is the banister railing that decorates the top of the dome. When you are on the botttom level and look straight up you can see this railing.
This is a model of the capitol building created by a group of 4th graders. It is on the 4th level. This is the new level that was recently opened in 2007 to the public if you take the dome tour.

Denver Temple

On Sunday we took our first real trip away from Kara. The four of us went on a search to find the temple. Here is the proof we found it. It is actually located in Centennial Colorado about 12 miles outside of Denver.
We tried to get a close as we could. We walked all the way around singing the song "I Love to See the Temple." This was the highlight of our day. During Happy Experience time seeing the temple was each boys favorite event of the day.

Young Artist

While Chandler was busy making his mask Carter and Corban found something that was more their pace. There was this big mural for childre to us paints and fill in all the white spaces they way they wanted to. Corban has started his purple flower.
He has painted a lot more of the flower now and stopped to show off his work.

Carter and Corban are at the supply table were they can change out paintbrushes, get more paint and find the aprons provided because unlike the paint in the Children's corner this paint could stain.

4th of July at Cherry Creek Art Festival

Every year in Denver they have the Cherry Creek Art Festival. People come from all over to show there artistic ability using all different kinds of mediums. Here Carter and Corban got to show off their piano playing ability. Cater played "Pink Panther" and Corban played "Heart and Soul "and "S.O.S." by Jonas Brothers.
Chandler tried his hand at the piano also. The lady there helped him find all the 2 group black keys and the 3 group black keys. He enjoyed this.
Tough Guys Wear Pink or sit in pink strollers. After blowing out a tire on his stroller the other day Chandler decided he could sit and enjoy the sites from Kiaya's Pink Stroller. Here he is enjoying a snowcone. What is an outdoor festival without a snowcone. This is his first snowcone ever and it was "CCCCCold," he said.
The boys are sporting their new 4th of July shirts and the African drums they made in the Children Corner after eating a 4th of July hot dog and enjoying cups of water with a cherry at the bottom of each cup.

Downtown Denver

On our walk to the 16th street mall we saw different artistic creations. Chandler did not like this one. He was afraid he would be swept away if he got closer. If you look closely you can see him running away in the bottom left hand corner.
This artistic creation gives a new meaning to the words "Pull up a chair." This chair is found outside of the Denver Public Library. We had fun imagining how big a person would have to be to use a chair this size.
We are still walking to the 16th street mall here but had to stop and admire the amazing gardens in the Civic Center Park found in the middle of Downtown. This is a picture of us in front of the capitol building. We will be touring this building tomorrow.
We made it to the 16th street mall. This is a walking area downtown where there are lots of different kind of shops. There are hanging baskets and large flower pots everywhere. It reminds me of a mixture between a "fusse ganger zone" in Germany and Pikes Market in Seattle Washington.
Kara said a trip to the 16th street Mall is not complete without sitting and enjoying an apple from the Rocky Mountain Candy Store. These stores are only found in Utah and Colorado. These are not just an apple. They are Carmel dipped and then they add all different kinds of chocolate, cookie crumbs, nuts etc. Corban chose "Cookies and Cream" Cater's was "Tiger Butter" and Chandler and I shared one called "Bear Claw." We had never tasted anything like them before. It was a nice treat.
